Built in 1948 and originally named Omaha Memorial Stadium, in 1950 Omaha caught the eye of the NCAA Baseball College World Series. The beginning of the CWS was in Chicago, Illinois in 1948, and moved to Kansas City, Kansas in 1949.  Once in Omaha, the College World Series soon became a tradition.

Eventually, Omaha Memorial Stadium was renamed after Johnnny Rosenblatt, Former Mayor of Omaha.  Johnny Rosenblatt and the late John Diesing were part of a small group dedicated to keep the baseball college world series in Omaha.  Going onto form CWS Omaha, a nonprofit organization responsible for the operation of CWS.  As Omaha grew, so did CWS.

The first 12 years, the baseball college world series was a money loosing proposition.  With the determination and forward thinking of that small group of forefathers, the CWS would go on to be not only a money making  venture, but a tradition that no other college sport currently holds.

In 1964 the stadium was renamed after Mayor Johnny Rosenblatt, who played a large part in bringing the College World Series to Omaha.

In current years, Omahas Rosenblatt Satdium has seen renovations yearly to accomidate with the demand of more and more fans flying and driving to Omaha to attend CWS.

The Baseball College World Series has transformed itself into a full production requiring hundreds of volunteers every year.  These volunteers come from all walks of life, and many service and athletic orgnizations.  Remember when you order a drink, popcorn, or a hot dog in the stadium, your also helping a high school booster club, service organization or the like.

The greatest thing about the Baseball College World Series is that the prices are still reasonable and relatively easy to come by.

If the Baseball College World Series were held in any other town, or different towns each year like other college championship sports, I’m not sure it would have the same feel.  The people of Omaha have got to be the friendliest, most genuine people I have come across.   When the person next to you sparks up a conversation with you, know that you have made a friend for life.  I have many dear friends from Omaha that I met at the Baseball College World Series.
