Story of the Day Archive

As the day draws closer to the Final Baseball College World Series game at Rosenblatt Stadium, I have so many mixed emotions.  First of all, I feel extremely lucky to have experienced college baseball at Rosenblatt.  Since 2003 I have met so many genuine friends from all walks of life who live all over the USA.  I truly have been able to experience the midwest hospitality at it's finest.  I will miss this place, after interviewing Steve Rosenblatt yesterday, I came to the realization that I am not alone with these feelings.  I realized that there are countless fans who have come to love CWS at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium.  What many fans do not understand is, Johnny Rosenblatt had the single most influence in bringing baseball, most specifically College Baseball to Omaha.  Without Johnny Rosenblatt and countless others, Omaha would not know the College World Series as we have come to love it.

In talking to fans who have had season tickets for years, 2010 is a very sad year for the Baseball College World Series in Omaha.  South Omaha has been a wonderful host for 61 years.  Zesto's can't be beat for a wholesome burger and fries, add a shake if your up to the challenge.  Starskys Bar and grill has always had a open door policy, a place where folks meet up from all over for the first time.  Stadium View across from Rosenblatt has given away over 40,000 beers in 19 years.  Owner Greg Pivovar told us "there is no better place for his collection of sports memorabilia in Omaha than across from Rosenblatt Stadium".  The (Piv) is unsure of his fate for the coming years, hopes he can secure a location close to the new ballpark to carry on his tradition of hospitality.

For eleven years a dedicated fan from LSU has shown up to give away beads, Frank Cuomo has been coming to the CWS since 2000, admiting "I don't see much of each game" Frank enjoys giving away mardi gras beads to the children year after year.  Frank says " I bring enough beads for the entire series, giving them away at the right field gate to start, whatever I have left over I walk through the crowd throwing them to the kids".

You can share your photos with us at Photos@Rosenblattmemories.com, and be sure to check out our daily video.  Todays Video includes an interview with Steve Rosenblatt, son of Johnny Rosenblatt.

Check out todays Video for a great interview with Greg Pivovar, owner of Stadium View Baseball card shop.  As a fan, I am forever amazed at how friendly the fans at the Baseball College World Series are and always have been since I started coming in 2003. The CWS experience really is a combination of sights, sounds, smells, taste, a whole lot of touch, but for the baseball college world series there is a sixth sense which is heart!  For those teams that are eliminated, remember "you are one of the eight greatest college baseball teams in the USA this year, and that is no small feat", for those that continue to compete "continue to play ball with the passion and heart you have shown to get here".

As I sat at yesterdays game, while the National Anthem was playing, I was brought to extra emotion knowing this is the final week the Baseball College World Series will be at Rosenblatt Stadium.  As I wiped the tears from my face, I imagined that I am not the only fan feeling those emotions this week.  Once the game began, the crowd thought Florida State was going to run away with the game.  Once the top of the 8th inning came around, Texas Christian University brought the entire crowd at Rosenblatt Stadium to their feet, bases loaded, 2 outs and a Homer to Center field threw TCU ahead of FSU.  The energy in Rosenblatt was overflowing onto the streets and bars on 13th street.

Send us your photos for the world to see at Photos@Rosenblattmemories.com, we will be happy to publish them.

That's right Los Angeles Dodgers great Steve Garvey attending a game betweet Arizona St. and South Carolina, Steve was nice enough to stop by and say hello for a few minutes.  It has been said before and I enjoy saying it again, "It's the fans that really make the Baseball College World Series the experience that it is.  Over the years I have met so many great people from Omaha and all over the United States.  And if you listen to the interviews, you hear the same thing over and over again.  Of all the times I have been to Omaha, the weather has been the most unpredictable this year, with nightly thunderstorms and rain, then switching to super humid days, it creates a great challenge for players and fans.  I am particularly impressed with the recycling effort that Coke and Rosenblatt Stadium have taken on this year, with plastic recycle cans literally at an arms throw all over the ballpark grounds.

Wow, A day for the record books.........appears that the rain, lightning and thunder couldn't miss the final season at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium.  With the game starting and stopping numerous times, it created a 13 hour fan frenzy.  Creating a stack up of three games for June 21, 2010, the weather brought out ponchos, trash bags, tarps and hats.  Greg at Stadium View had enough time to marry someone during the delays, and they even helped us hang one of our banners outside the card shop.  This final season is more than I could have ever imagined, bringing out the best of baseball fans from all over this United States of America.  Had the opportunity to meet Greg Graham, son of Rice Baseball coach Wayne Graham......look for his interview tomorrow on our daily video.

The vendors on 13th street were in full swing as the stadium emptied more than once, and it appears that TCU may be the fan favorite seeing as their stuff was selling out everywhere we went.  As the Oklahoma/South Carolina game went into the late hours of the evening, only the dedicated fans weathered the storm to the end.  With a steady downpour during the last two innings, Fans huddled under the upper grandstands.

The day before the Final Performance of the NCAA baseball College World Series at Rosenblatt Stadium is met with so many mixed emotions.  Fans, players, and big league hopefuls have eyed Rosenblatt Stadium for 60 years, hoping to one day make it in person.  For those fans that have attended, this will mark one last time they will be able to watch a College World Series game in Rosenblatt.  For those that have never been before, 2010 marks the final year they will ever have the chance to see a game there.  The cobblestone streets on the Omaha Old Market, just like the Henry Doorly Zoo were filled with college baseball fans overjoyed with the opportunity to step foot into Rosenblatt Stadium in 2010.  As a true fan of Rosenblatt Stadium, it does bring a tear to my eye entering the last season of CWS at Rosenblatt.  We were able to hang our Rosenblattmemories.com banners throughout Omaha, in hopes that fans will share their photos with us.  Celebrating 60 years of College World Series at Rosenblatt Stadium, so if you have photos to share with us, email them to Photos@rosenblattmemories.com.

www.rosenblattmemories.com was there, Interviewing fans, collecting photos and documenting the experience of that one last Road to Omaha in Rosenblatt Stadium.  Although LSU was eliminated by UC Irvine, The LSU fans traveled well and provided some of their great hospitality and kindness while in Los Angeles.  UCLA and UC Irvine went head to head in the final game of the Los Angeles Regional, with Dodgers great Eric Karros in attendance.  Although UC Irvine was eliminated, they gave UCLA an early run for the chance to play one last time at Rosenblatt stadium.  www.rosenblattmemories.com was there, sending live Tweets @tweetrosenblatt as well as updating our facebook page.  We added a new interview from a friendly UC Irvine fan named Dave.  Remember to check out our daily video of whats happening at Rosenblatt from a fans perspective.  We will be distributing our collectors Rosenblatt Memories baseball trading cards.  Lets make 2010 a year to remember at Rosenblatt Stadium.
